Configure the faceted search filters

Facet categories help you structure your facets by providing a means to group filters. You need to know the following about facet categories:

• The "General" facet category will always be displayed by default and cannot be edited.

• You can add up to 10 custom facet categories.

• Every facet category is represented on the facet category row.

• You can have three facets inside a facet category. The facets are structured in columns.

To add a custom facet category:

1. Click inside the "Asset gallery" widget in the Portal preview to access the widget settings in the design panel on the left side.

2. Click the "Add facet category" button in the widget settings.

3. Name your category. You will get a text box for every language you configured on the "General settings" panel.

   The name will be shown in a published Portal to your audience in each respective language.

4. Once this is done, the facet category will be available on the Portal preview where you can customise it.

To change the order of your custom facet categories:

1. Click inside the "Asset gallery" widget in the Portal preview to access the widget settings in the design panel on the left side.

2. Use the arrows beside the facet category name in the widget settings to change the position of the facet category.
   

Every facet category needs to be filled with facets and the facets need facet values in order to work. You need to know the following about facets:

• Facets represent metadata fields of your assets. For example: "Creation date", "Name", or "file format".

• Facet values represent values in a metadata field. The audience can use the facet values to narrow down the displayed assets to exactly those they are interested in.

• You can add up to 3 facets to a facet category.

To add facets to your category:

• To add the first facet:

1. Click on the facet category in the Portal preview.

2. Click "Add facet".
   

3. Choose a facet from the drop-down.
   

• To add more facets:

1. Click on the facet category in the Portal preview.

2. Click the "Add new column" button.
   

3. Click "Add facet" in the new column.
   

4. Choose a facet from the drop-down.

You can edit the facets in a facet category:

1. Click on the facet category on the Portal preview.

2. Click the "Facet actions" button on the facet.

3. Click "Edit" on the drop-down to enter the edit dialog.

4. (Optional) Click the drop-down menu under "Facet display" to choose between the two facet value display options:

• "All values": With this option, the facet will display all available facet values.

• "Top 10 values & all values": With this option, a toggle button with the two options will appear in the facet for the audience. "Top 10" means only the 10 facet values with the highest asset count will be displayed.

  The toggle button only appears if there are more than 10 facet values in the facet.

5. (Optional) Edit the "Facet name" section. For each Portal language, a dedicated text area is available.

   The facet name will be shown to the audience in their currently chosen language.

6. Click "Save" for your changes to take effect.

2. Click the "Delete category" icon next to the name of the facet category in the widget settings.

3. Click "Delete" to confirm.

1. Click on the facet category in the Portal preview.

2. Open the "Facet actions" menu on the facet.

3. Click "Delete" in the menu.

4. Confirm by clicking "Delete".
