Asset variant types

On this page you can find information on variant types supported for assets besides their original format.

Variants are download formats of your assets that will be available for your users in the Portal connected to the Library. For more information on how to set variants for your assets, see Create a Library or Edit a Library.

Handling of 3D assets is currently not supported in Portals. To explore future possibilities for 3D asset support please contact your account manager or our support team.

Variants available for each asset type

Library variants provide your Library assets with easily consumable download formats. Different asset types have different supported variants:

*Small, medium and large variants are downloadable preview images that are generated independently of the asset type. For example, If you download the medium variant of an audio, document or video asset, the preview image of this asset lands on your computer and can therefore not be browsed or played.

Recommended if you want your users to download a small image version of the original asset. Useful as a preview or for digital social media content.

"Medium"

Recommended if you want your users to download a medium image version of the original asset. Useful for high quality screens and is the starting point for printable material.

"Large"

3000 x 3000

Recommended if you want your users to download a large image version of the original asset. Useful for high-end printed materials like brochures, banners and also printed large surface advertisement.

Recommended if you want users to download videos converted to mp4. This popular and compact video format works on most devices and streaming platforms.

Recommended if you want users to download audio assets converted to m4a.This popular and compact audio format works on most devices and streaming platforms.

Recommended if you want your users to download document assets (e.g. docx, rtf, txt, etc.) in a form that retains all formatting from the original asset.
